Te Wera Poetic writing

At camp there was a big flying fox and I went on the flying fox. It was so fun. At the end there were three big tyres and they were fill of water.  I got wet. Then I had a turn on the flying fox.

I jumped on the flying fox and sped down the flying fox.

I had a great time on the flying fox. The next time day I went on the flying fox and it ran over the night an tipped up the tyres and I got wet, but I had another turn.

To be continued …

Mr Ritai told us how to paddle, the experienced went first and then the non-experienced.

The minute I hit the water I was excited, it was huge!!!

On the other hand the big islands at the front were a bit dodgy. It was great fun.

Mr Ritai told us to join up so we could run across the kayaks.

The seal entry was next. I went down the hill as thoug I was going 100 mph! And then splash! Spash! Plop!

The sudden urge of darkness hit me as though a full gron ibex rammed into me. I opened my eyes, it was dark since I was upside down. I looked from my angle, I saw lots of light rays hit the water, dozens of shimmering light rays on the base of the water.

I struggled under my kayak, my lungs desperately searching for oxygen, my heart was racing, bubbles rising to the surface. I twisted and turned trying to find air.

I found myself the right way up, I could actually breathe.  I could feel the warmth of the sun, something made me happy. I don’t know what made me happy, maybe it was the fact I could breath, the fact that I was still alive.

It puzzles me still today, I can’t figure it out.

I stepped in, ‘SQUASH.’ Yuck, it looked like a chocolate only worse. I didn’t really want to step in it but everybody else looked like they were having so much fun.

I was backing away when….. I slipped, I was covered in disgusting brown mud. After awhile I thought, this isn’t so bad, “I love the  mud!”

Then the teacher called out, ‘time to go”

I thought in my head “NO, I don’t want to go!”  On the way back to the campsite I kept on thinking, “Why didn’t I get into the mud earlier?” Then I would have had more time in the mud.

I walked into the paddock, my heart was pounding, it ooked so fun and slippery.

I was one of the first people. It was long and slippery, it was red …

The parent put the slippery, sticky washing liquid on it and then came the water. After the other people had gone it was my turn 1, 2, 3. WHOOSH, I wasfast, like a motor bike whoosing through the wind screaming like an opera singer.

My heart was beating with excitement.

There were big bottom bumps at the end bit.

Then SPLASH!!!  I thought that it was totally awesome. Then I went for another turn still full with excitement.

We were on our way, we were wearing our old clothes and shoes. We were walking down the track and then we saw the sign that said mud run with an arrow pointing towards the mud run. As soon as we saw the sign we all started running towards the mud run. I was so excited I couldn’t wait to get into the mud!

We had some photos and then we got into mud. It was so much fun. I went over to the mud slide. I got to the mud slide some people had only discovered half of it. I played on that for a little bit.

I went over to the other side of the mud run and played with Ceilidh. We went into the corner and purposely got stuck it was so fun J J !! I love the mud run J J J !!!

It was that night I had to make a decision should I go on or should I leave.  I thought about it
 that night

I finally made a decision. That morning I put on some warm clothes and silently opened the
door. I examined the sky, still dark, I thought.

I snuck out of my cabin. Quietly stepped down the steps I came to the bottom step and
walked in the dinning room. And I had done it. I had lasted camp and it is over.

I had decided I was going to do it. I was going to do the seal entry. I was so exited that I felt
I might burst and explode with it! Soon I was ready to go. I had a yellow long slim kayak like
a slender banana.

Mrs Mca pushed me down. I slid easily down the muddy hill like a snow board skimming
 down the mountainside.

“ Waaahhooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!” I yelled, like a Wolfs howl whistling through the night as the
water rushed up to meet me.

The water leapt up all around me as I splashed into the pond and bounced gracefully up
and down bobbing towards the other side.

Kayaking
We were walking over to the lake for kayaking. When we got there I had butterflies in my stomach. I have been kayaking before but that was with my dad.

Me and two other girls were going second so while we were waiting we were talking on the grass while watching everybody else get into their kayak. When it was time for us to go kayaking my heart was practically beating out of my stomach.

Mrs McA helped me get into my kayak and pushed me off. I didn’t want to move at first because I was scared that I was going to fall out!!! Mrs McA came over and said I’ll turn you around and help you hold on. Then she said lets change your kayak that one looks wobbly because it’s wider.

So I changed my kayak with somebody else and it was great. It was easier and it was fun. So after that I decided to do the seal entry!!!

I got up there and pulled my kayak along with me. When I got to the top I was so nervous I didn’t even want to do it anymore. But I did it anyway. So I got in my kayak and they pushed me off.

SPLASH!!! I didn’t wet that wet but it was so fun. I did it over and over again. It was my favourite thing we did the whole camp!!

I couldn’t wait, I was like a dog trying to get
out of a kennel. Then it was my turn.

The lady said, “ hop on,  you’re next”, I hopped on so fast. I went zooming down, then I saw the tyres.
I said, “Oh, no!”

Then there was a bang and a thump. It was like a digger digging up mud and I was the mud.

I said I was glad it was over and then I went on it again and again. Cause it was like the best flying fox ever.

I was bursting with excitement.  The sun was out. The water was sparkling. We were at the kayaking.

I was in a kayak with what felt like a million others.

The lake was as cold as the artic waters.

The lake as foggy and damp as a wetland

The lake was as big as blue whale no one knew which way to go.

I fell out of the canoe. It felt as I was in a shark attack. The canoe was shaking I tried to get my balance until woopsa daisy I was out.

It was a cold drizzly night, we were walking to it. I was so excited.
It was massive.

Then we started

I was sneaking up the hill, it was so much fun. Then I snuck under some bushes. Then the torch got shined on me, then I ran up and won.

I was just getting my kayak back into the water and out of the corner of my eye I saw a kayak lying in the lake so I swam over to the other side of the lake.
Then I got the kayak and brought it back to the other side of the lake and got the water out and then I got into my kayak and started kayaking around.

I was in the bush just like a deer. I found some food and water and then by the time I had got them all I knew I had to hide.

I ran around, I found it, the ultimate hiding spot. Everyone wanted to join me in my hiding spot. I told them not to but they did.

I was glad I was a deer so the others could get tagged so I got up and ran looking for another ultimate hiding spot.

I was in it, it was a Punga and I was right inside. I was worried all the predators were out there but I took a risk, got out and ran so fast my heart was pounding. I was so fast, it was like I got shot out of a gun. I was a risk taker and then there was my predator.

We were there, where my brothers had talked about – THE MUD RUN!

We took a before photo to show how clean we were. When we were told we could hop in some people hopped in really quick and said,”come in, it’s not too bad”

So I hopped in, I got over to the other side. I felt happy, I wasn’t worrying too much. I picked up a mud ball and threw it at an adult, he threw one back and hit me on the head.

Somebody hopped on the mudslide. Then Mr Fleming and the adult got some milk bottles fill of water and tipped it down so we could go faster and get more air.

When it was my turn Mr Fleming tipped more down and I went really quick.

It was a fun time at the mud run. We took and after photo, then started to walk back to camp.

I was hiding, then I heard someone coming. I was so still. I was like an egg with nothing happening. In my brain I thought I hope he doesn’t find me, he started to run. I thought he had spotted me.

I ran. He did spot me. He almost got me. Yes I lost him. I went to hide under a fern tree.

Then the whistle went for man to come in went.
I dashed under a fern, I was so quiet. Man went straight past. I thought good. I heard them shoot a pig.

I was so excited, everyone said it was so fun.  So that is why I was so excited.  I just wanted to be there I wish it was closer I was saying.  Finally we had got there.  It looked so cool and muddy like a mud swamp.  I couldn’t wait to hop in that mud, I could see the slide it looked awesome.  Then it was the time to hop in.
I was excited I went straight over to the mud slide.  Then they started pouring some water on it.  I wanted a go on it so bad! It felt like a million years but it wasn’t.  Then it was my turn, I went so fast that I couldn’t see straight and when I jumped up it was so muddy it was like a thick soup you couldn’t see through.
Then Jake came after me and he missed me by a whisker,   then Mrs McA said it was time to go.  When I jumped out I was so cold.  I wished we could stay but we couldn’t.  Then we got back to camp and I had to get all of the mud off with a fire hose and take my muddy clothes off.

When we all hopped in I said ‘yay’ we’re going kayaking.  We chose our kayaks and I was so excited!  We hopped in our kayaks and done a seal entry and started to paddle, I started to move!  I was so happy I had butterflies in my tummy.
Aimee

I closed my eyes, I took a step forward it oozed between my fingers and wrapped itself around my fingertips.  I took another step forward and my foot squished down it wrapped around my neck.   I heard splashing behind me then I knew it was my time to move.
It came closer I pulled my leg up I pulled harder it wouldn’t loosen up, the splashing came even closer, I pulled harder and harder and har……. too late!  BUMP! That’s me I was down, wet, cold, sad, mad and last but not least…….muddy!
I stood up with a frown, I was muddy from top to toe everybody stared.  There was a little giggle, then there was 28 more, then there was a 29th …..ME!  I had to admit it was pretty funny.  The mud run is a load of laughs.
Hunter

I was lining up.  I had butterflies like stirred up frogs.  I hopped on the slide, I took my last breath and  was zooming down like a speed boat so fast that I disappeared into the oozing mud.  I slide out of the mud and I walked off.  I had conquered the mud slide!
Caleb

It’s almost my turn.  It is staring up at me like a line of lava, it looks fun as.  It’s my turn now I’m going for my run up.
I jumped………..ow! That was like jumping on hard concrete.  Zoooooom…… now I’m going as fast as a bike going down a hill, here comes a curvy mold like a land mine!
Now I find myself spinning like a flying saucer.  I’m almost there like I’m about to win a formula one race!  SPLASH!!  Wow that was fun, I just did the waterslide.
Barnaby

We didn’t know where the mud was so we had to find out.  We went down the mudslide and landed in the muddy swamp, it felt squashy on the bottom and it looked gross!

Flying fox at Te Wera Camp

“I haven’t been on it yet” I say to my classmate.

“Don’t worry it’s fun!”they say.

“Caitlin your go,” someone yells. I gulp, it does look scary! I close my eyes and suddenly I’m an owl flying, zooming down a mountain in
the pitch blackness of night.

I open my eyes and it’s not night, I’m not flying down a mountain, I’m not an owl. My hairs wild, it just won’t stay still. All I can hear is the wind in my ears, the silent hum of the bees in the background and a few shouts of laughter as KABOOM! I crash but there’s no sound effects.

That was so much fun! I yell. There’s shouts of laughter and claps I can’t believe I did it I conquered the Te Wera camp flying fox :]

TE WERA POETIC WRITING - Emily
My mind was trembling with fear, I could hear my heart beating like boom boxes, I slowly sat down, and away I went.

I was speeding like a race car on the track, I could feel the wind on my face brushing my ears, I was soaring through the sky.

Suddenly I felt something oozing between my toes as gravity became my worst nightmare. The slippery, slimy mud came slithering up my body like quicksand from the fierce mighty jungle

The Mud slide - by Kate
I was whooshing down, down, down. I screamed. ”AHHHHH”!! I felt the wind in my face, Mr Fleming yelled. “more water, more water”! Suddenly almost speedily hit the mud with a big splash!!

I got up, the mud was all squishy. I felt myself sinking. My goggles were all brown, I could hardly see. I wiped them, somebody was coming straight towards me. I leaped out of the way and still got splashed by the mud.

Kayaks

I was nervous, everyone wanted me to go on the kayaks. I didn’t want to go out. But then I said “YES, I will do this.” Then I went out in my kayak – I was so nervous.

Once I was out there I was fine though. I had butterflies in my tummy. I was ok. I was still shaking hard out but I didn’t want to tell anyone that I didn’t want to be out there.

Then the seal entry came available and everyone wanted me to do it. I was refusing to do it. In the end I didn’t do it. The butterflies were too big in my tummy but maybe next time I will do it.

Instead I had had enough so I got out of the kayak and just watched everyone else do the seal entry.

Predator - played at school - By Riley H

Shoving ferns out of the way, my heart was beating, rushing. I saw the target. Whoosh!

I went in. As I finally got into the running and then Shavosh it dispapeared into the bush. I was bummed, then I chased a breathless creature as i went through the bushes. That got me drenched,

I yelled, "Bang Liam, you're dead"

It was over then and I sneaked behind a tree and struck a target.

Then "BANG, Arron you're dead!" I yelled and he ran down the hill to his place.

Mr Ritai took me in his car to Te Wera.
And then I did archery
We walked for ages to the kayaks. The kayaks were at a farm. When I got there I didn’t go in the kayaks and I was being eaten alive by sandflies.

Then I went home in Mr Ritai’s car.
